Preparing for Week 3: Prepping sheep skin for bark-tanning

Sheep Skin

  1. Wash your sheepskin anytime from now until shortly before our live call. Follow instructions here.

  2. If you froze your washed sheepskin, make sure it's thawing at least 24 hours in advance of our live call.

  3. We will be acidifying our sheep skins together. Have the citric acid from your materials kit (15 oz) plus your 5 lbs of plain salt handy. We will be dissolving the ctric acid + salt together, then submerging our sheep skins into this mix in a large tote. You will use 5 gallons of warm water in total.
